Still Budgeting
N.C.’s top Republicans say a deal on a comprehensive spending package may not be announced next week.
By the time you read this, I’ll either be recovering from a thrilling Game 5 win in the Stanley Cup Finals or experiencing a tropical depression. Regardless, it’ll have been a blast attending my first in-person Canes game since December 2024, when they hosted my beleaguered San Jose Sharks. Just don’t ask how much it cost me to get into Thursday night’s game (answer: both an arm and a leg).

Don’t count on a budget next week after all.
House Speaker Destin Hall and state Senate leader Phil Berger met this week to help iron out lingering differences between the chambers’ proposals, but it looks like they may need more time before they can release the final language.
