Congratulations to the UNC Tar Heels baseball team on a thrilling walkoff win on Sunday to advance to the College World Series. I was cheering in the blazing sun for the entire weekend series. While I won’t be making the trip out to Omaha, I’ll be there in spirit on Friday as the Heels take on the Ole Miss Rebels. Tune in at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

In the meantime, signs are looking positive for a budget next week. Let’s get into the news of the week…

Roll Call

  1. State of the budget

  2. What to watch in the General Assembly this week

  3. Is shortening early voting for the general election still on the table?

  4. Ticketmaster got some ‘splaining to do

  5. Pushback over proposed Duke Energy rate hikes

Money Talks

Top state House and Senate budget negotiators are working to finalize a deal in the coming days, with the goal of voting on a detailed spending package next week. If things stay on track, it’ll be the first time lawmakers will have approved a comprehensive budget in about 1,000 days (next Thursday would be the 1,000-day mark).

Leaders in both chambers are working behind the scenes this week to resolve differences between their respective proposals.
