Top state House and Senate budget negotiators hope to approve a spending package next week.
Congratulations to the UNC Tar Heels baseball team on a thrilling walkoff win on Sunday to advance to the College World Series. I was cheering in the blazing sun for the entire weekend series. While I won’t be making the trip out to Omaha, I’ll be there in spirit on Friday as the Heels take on the Ole Miss Rebels. Tune in at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

Top state House and Senate budget negotiators are working to finalize a deal in the coming days, with the goal of voting on a detailed spending package next week. If things stay on track, it’ll be the first time lawmakers will have approved a comprehensive budget in about 1,000 days (next Thursday would be the 1,000-day mark).
Leaders in both chambers are working behind the scenes this week to resolve differences between their respective proposals.
